Tech Tips
Big block 364 heads on smaller 322 engines. The 364 CID heads have larger valves and square exhaust ports. To install these heads on a 322CID motor, use the 364 head gasket. This gasket has an oil drain hole that the big block heads need. The front water crossover manifold connecting the heads must be shortened on each side. This can be accomplished by cutting and brazing it back together. The only tricky part of this is ensuring a good seal still exists to the water pump. Different size rubber "O" rings and form-a-gasket have proven very effective. The motor shown below has run this configuration since 1970.
